My previous post about my friend Armando DeLuca, a Neopolitan tailor who owned and ran Tailorama with his spouse Juanita for 60 years, was dated October 17, 2022. I just found out from the Albany Times Union obituary and by speaking with his spouse that Armando passed away ten days later October 27, 2022. I will miss his smile and watching him sew at his machine. He had great skill with a needle and thread. Neapolitan tailors are world renowned. The window from which he looked out at the street has a red neon sign that reads: SMILE. He and his spouse always gave me breaks on our dry cleaning and alterations. Every time I watch a soccer game I think of him. All through the last World Cup I thought of him. By then he was gone but I did not know that until today. He was a humble honest man. He loved his family and his long departed dog, a large white shepherd. He played for weddings in a small band for over 30 years. He was a reassuring presence that made one feel honored to have known him. He put on no airs. He did not have time for that. It was not part of his character. Smile Armando and rest in peace.
